About Us
Our History
Established in 2002, A2E delivers innovative product design services across a range of industries.
Based in Livingston, Scotland, in the heart of Silicon Glen, we are only 20 minutes from Edinburgh Airport and 40 minutes by car from the Centre of Glasgow.
Following in the Silicon Valley tradition, A2E was founded by a small group of engineering entrepreneurs who had worked together at Cadence Design Systems. Cadence is a Silicon Valley stalwart and was one of the founding companies investing in the early days of Silicon Glen to access technology and expertise spun out from the University of Edinburgh.
Our Growth
In August 2019, we became part of the Pivot International group, further expanding our capabilities. By joining a global organisation of companies, we are able to access global supply chains and offer volume manufacturing facilities throughout Europe, North America, and Asia. For prototyping we work with local suppliers to reduce lead times and transportation costs. We are able to cover the full product life cycle from concept to volume manufacturing.
Working alongside our sister company, Wideblue, we can incorporate mechanical and industrial design expertise and optical design. This gives us the breadth and depth of skills to realise all aspects of your product.
Now 15 strong and growing, we have expertise in electronic hardware design and software/firmware design, all supported by a team of project managers. To date, we have worked on 400 projects and engaged with 120 different customers, both locally and globally. If you would like to join our growing team, view our openings on our Careers page.
Our Expertise
Working in diverse industrial and commercial sectors, we cover oil and gas, renewables, medical, scientific, and many other areas. One particular area of expertise is in design for hazardous areas (i.e. ATEX, IECEx). We also do considerable work in smart metering for utilities.
We have broad experience covering low power, high power, high temperature, high-speed buses, and many different battery technologies. Of course, no list would be complete without mentioning wireless including cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LoRa and proprietary ISM communications.
